Sophians always believe in service before self this Diwali also saw the students of classes VI to XII collecting various items like soap, dal, rice tea, sugar atta and all such household items and distributing them among the less fortunate people residing in various parts of the city thus giving these poor hope and respite from their difficult lives and motivating them to look forward to a better year.
According to the guidelines of COVID 19, Sophia senior secondary school celebrated the birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the great freedom fighter, eminent educationist and the first Union Minister of Education. The school organised poster making and slogan writing competition highlighting the importance of education on November 11, 2020. A speech was also delivered by Ishita Beri of class 8th on role played by education. Necessary arrangements for the celebration of the National Education Day was done virtually strictly adhering to the guidelines issued by the government of India for prevention of spread of COVID 19.
'Cleanliness ' the word itself creates a noble feeling in one’s mind. The school authorities have always been engaged in the noble task of inculcating this habit of worshiping beauty in the form of cleanliness. We at Sophia believe that “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”
Honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi has highlighted the importance of cleanliness and has announced ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.'
Carrying forward the same legacy School took an initiative for a Cleanliness drive in the school premises everyone even the drop out kids coming for coachings joined hands to clean the surroundings .Thus, carried a very important lesson that along with our body & mind, we also need to take responsibility of keeping our surroundings clean
The school management has recently adopted a noble initiative for coaching the school dropout kids these kids belong to the labourers working on various construction sites in the school neighbourhood .These kids are not only given lessons in basic English Hindi language but also art , sports and discipline too , thus leading to the all round development of the children who are deprived of their essential rights .
To mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Rashtriye Ekta Diwas was observed on 31st October 2020. A series of activities were con ducted to commemorate the occasion and spread the message of national unity . Rashtriya Ekta Pledge was undertaken by the staff and students. Students of class 11 took part in a speech competition whereas 10 class students had an English essay writing event .Students of classes 8 and 9 showed their talent and love for their country in Slogan and Poster Making activity organized for them. The occasion reaffirmed the importance of unity ,integrity and security among students and the nation on the whole.
On Thursday morning of October 29, a virtual English Speech Competition was conducted under the guidance of Ma'am Dolly. The students of class X actively participated. A lively classroom - like environment was fabricated as students sat in the school uniforms and conveyed their views on -how these times of Covid-19 have led to some positive outcomes.
Classwise activities
Various online activities were organised by Sophia School in order to mark the season of Navratri festival.
Class VI- Diya Decoration
Students of class VIth actively took part in Diya decoration as they used their creative skills when they beautifully decorated earthen diyas using poster colours, sparkles, mirrors, ribbons, etc.
Class VII- Thali Decoration
Students of VIIth class put on their thinking caps and decorated thalis with utmost neatness. They creatively photographed their thalis and submitted to their respective class teachers.
Class VIII- Bandhanwar Making
The bhandhanwar making activity by the students of class VIIIth provided the students with an opportunity to have different ways of celebrating the coming festivals.
Class IX- Curtains decoration
Beautiful hanging curtains prepared by the students of class IX gave the students a platform to show their creative skills. They photographed their beautiful windows and walls with curtains.
Class X- Rangoli and Poster making
Students of class X grabbed the opportunity by presenting their rangolis and posters. The festive season got filled with joy as the colours of rangoli and poster were carved into different designs.
Class XI- Bottle decoration
The girls of class XI took active participation in bottle decoration using decorative lights.
Class XII- Best out of waste
The best out of waste creations for the students of class XII gave a chance to showcase their talent and was a real confidence booster for all.
All these activities are the mode of self expression and creativity that developed self confidence in every student. Thus all the activities which were conducted virtually provided great pleasure to students as well as teachers.
On 2nd October students of all classes recited poems and delivered speeches on Gandhiji's life online. A talk about 'Bapu' was shared by Sophian teachers with the students. Class Xth students watched a documentary film on Gandhiji. Thus Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with great zeal virtually.
The feast of exaltation of holy cross, observed on 14 September, celebrates the discovery of True Cross by St. Helena. Unlike every year, this year 2020, due to pandemic, it was celebrated on a different note. Teachers and students had organised online cultural program to express their gratitude and appreciation for our dear Sisters. Teachers offered their earnest prayers to God for Sisters through solemn prayer service. The video presentation encapsulated the cherishing moments of Sisters. The choral recitation was presented by students. A scintillating dances performances by little ones and melodious singing by teachers made the celebration just perfect. The program ended by beautiful messages by teachers.
International Literacy Day is an international observance, celebrated each year on 8 September. We use to celebrate this day contented and cheery each year in our school but this time celebrating virtually, keenness and warmth was there online all were enthusiastic. We started this commemoration with Lord’s prayer. Teachers told few recital about their childhood.
